In the Downtime, the town was full of strangers from all over the Dreamlands seeking the wisdom of the Easter Bunny and passageway to beg for mercy from the Big Egg of the Overall, Humpty Dumpty. Many of the other creatures of Cartoonland scoffed at these pilgrims, claiming that the Easter Bunny was not here but had risen the day that Jesus had died for her. But kids notice the things the goat won’t chew. And whenever I came back to Downtime, I knew I was older than before. My hair grew in thicker and my limbs would be significantly more elastic. I had learned new tricks, but I couldn't recall membering. And so when other cartoons said that we, the residents of Cartoonland, WE’RE the Easter Bunny, I believed them. It seemed like the most logical way to explain the amdreamsia. As I looked closer I began to see through the many eyes of the Easter Bunny, for indeed my own eyes were her eyes as well. And with the 6 of them, I could see just how few lines were between us and how many extra lines separated them. The pilgrims walked through it all, their feet not even touching the ground. Whereas me and all the other cartoons became one with the sidewalk. The tourists jumped when the mailbox says, “Hello,” as if they expected the mailbox to be one of the strange “inanimate objects” the pilgrims bring with them. Inanimate objects! Now that’s what they should be jumping at!! The Easter Bunny whispered many other secrets in our collective cartoon ears, so now I know there is no place where I start and the Easter Bunny’s knowledge begins. And so I knew I had an important quest to do for us all. To go fetch the Lost Eye of the Easter Bunny that Santa had hid in the Glitch back before Jesus had died. Although I had never ventured into what I now refer to as “solid dreamspace,” I was not afraid. I knew that we, the Easter Bunny, could intervene on my behalf at any time. If we thought it was right to save me. But I was not me, I was we, so my life didn’t really matter in the first place. I underestimated the power of the Glitch. It changed me, split me line by line, dot by dot, dream by dream until I was everything and nothing all at once. Until the static greyed and pinked in hue, until a rainbow flashed into view. And everything stood still. I felt my lines grow and myself reshape. I lost my memories and wisdom but still gained the eye. Now I walk around with 6 seeing eyes and 1 seething one. I have the Lost Eye of the Easter Bunny, but the Easter Bunny is no longer I.
