I need to figure out the core of who Santa is as this Creator God. Creation, as in the ultimate act of creating this universe, always seemed cruel. And I always felt a good creator, as in one who creates art, would know how to reflect that cruelty.

Obviously, creation is a lot of things, but we wanted Santa to be kind. We’ve played with this idea that it’s his shadow that created this universe.

But perhaps he’s kind of like the Mormon God, restrained by the laws of this universe, and the laws themselves are cruel.

And so he makes a higher plane for us mortals. He shares gifts and messages for us.

But how cruel to even make us in the first place! Is how I feel at least.

We want Santa to be kind, but perhaps he is absent minded? But he sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. What’s holding him back?

We’ve had a real struggle with the lore around this project. We want to capture that sense of universal unity and cohesion the Machine Elves seem to experience, but our own minds are broken.

Of course there is a oneness to all things, but experiencing true oneness or “ego-death” as the wooks call it, (not just the death of our own egos, but of our ability to understand other egos), this leads to a non-functional mess.

Seeing the connection between the pieces is good, but we must see the pieces as their own individual parts in order to function in this world.
